Experiment in Tension

Experiment in Tension is a collaborative movement and fiber art performance. It is an adaptation of Melissa Joy Livermore’s “Deconstruction” for the stage. In EiT, two performers work together to unravel a large piece of untreated canvas, thread by thread.

The many iterations of the project have emphasized the mental space for contemplation and conversation created by removing thread after thread from a piece of fabric. “Experiment in Tension” shifts the focus to the body-- by performing repetitive action in collaboration, the work expands Deconstruction to a multi-person endeavor centered on the mental and physical spaces we can share with others. \\\\\ ///// \\\\\ Special thanks to @return_of_gale for this rad video.
